Mississippi Gov Barbour has signed a Confederate History Month declaration. The causes of the Civil War War of Northern Aggression seem somehow the same as the TP angst.

well, this doesn’t excuse it, but IIRC Democratic and Republican leadership have been doing this for a long time in Mississippi. I think in this case it’s state stupidity rather than partisan stupidity. But my party has proven me wrong too often these days…

I’ve been told that many (white) Southerners believe that slavery was not the only cause of the Civil War.

I can understand the desire of white Southerners to commemorate the valor their ancestors displayed.

But, especially given what just happened with Virginia, I can’t view Barbour’s failure to mention slavery (see DD’s yahoo link) as anything but deliberate pandering to racists.
