re: #253 ggt

I found a picture of my mom as a little girl in the piles of paper I’ve so far sorted.

She was in the ordination mass of a priest from their home town. Man it was a huge deal getting ordained in the way back era. She was the “bridesmaid”?

One little girl is the “bride”?

As I understand it, it is a symbolic representation of the priest marrying the church.

Anyway, it was a HUGE honor for my mom to be chosen.

creepy if you ask me.

That wasn’t the way the Franciscans did it in the 60s. Sounds like some local decisions to soup up the ordination. (There are lots of non-liturgical variations on ceremonies, especially under the influence of heavily-ethnic parishes. When it gets too creative, the local authority knocks it down.)
