I understand how some of the other insurgent Senate candidates lost - I was never a fan of McGrath in Kentucky (who tried too hard to play Republican-lite), and I knew Hegar was a long shot in Texas. And don’t get me started on Cal Cunningham, who should be exiled from politics for life after screwing up a nearly sure thing in NC.

But Harrison in SC? Boillier in Kansas? Bullock in MT? We should have captured at least a few of those tossup races, and we got all but swept. ….

Very Red states — and the national “defund the police” rhetoric and the civil unrest likely did not play well, which the candidates themselves could not control at all. It’s also possible there were Republican ads that were very effective. Also, Trump increased his support among white voters from 54% in 2016 to 57%* in 2020, which certainly would help out.

*Don’t know how reliable the 57% is, since it’s probably based on exit polls on election day, which is heavily weighted toward Trump voters
