Serwer’s article puts a lot in perspective for me. My grandmother’s own mother emigrated in 1921 from modern day Slovakia. A few years later restrictive quotas on immigrants from Eastern and Southern Europe were implemented. If she had been a few years younger, I may not be here right now. And i guess that’s what gets me when I see people with names like Cernovich, Posoeblec, among others being the biggest champions of the new nativism. I don’t know their story but I know my story.
