I kind of understood the cop haters that come from some places, but most of the ones you meet are anarchist douchebags. One friend of mine straight-up hates cops because he grew up in an area with corrupt cops, where they got tipped off by one drug dealer about all the small-time dealers in the neighborhood so they could roll them up, leaving him competitively free. They got great arrest records, he mainly kept the peace and made money.

To me, this is at worst Faustian bargain— it might even have been better for my friend for this to be the case than a constant fight to be the kingpin. And it’s not the fault of the cops that they have to bust drug dealers, it’s the fault of our stupid laws.

Right. I was thinking about mandatory sentencing laws earlier WRT to cop hatred. Cops don’t make the laws. Sure, they arrest people for things like drugs but they’re not the ones who force judges into making minimal sentences. The anarchist types are a strange lot. You get the ones on the far-left and the far-right. I mean, not many moderate cop haters out there.
