Congress can either give the President the authority to raise the debt ceiling, or Congress can raise it themselves. There are no other options. If the GOP doesn’t want to raise the debt ceiling, this is on them.

You don’t want to welch on the bills you’ve already appropriated.

If you want to curb spending going forward, then we can have that discussion. But the debt ceiling goes to meeting obligations already made.
