Racism/racial discrimination doesn’t have to be based on race:

The term “racial discrimination” shall mean any distinction, exclusion, restriction, or p>reference based on race, colour, descent, or national or ethnic origin that has the purpose or effect of nullifying or impairing the recognition, enjoyment or exercise, on an equal footing, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural or any other field of public life. hri.org

That bolded list still doesn’t include religion. Sure, religion usually follows descent (or, at least, upbringing), but it is logically separable from it. For example, each one of the listed qualities is immutable, but you can change your religion. And if the U.N. had wanted religion in that list, they could certainly have included it.

In practice, I don’t doubt that a large amount of Islam-bashing has a racial component. But I wouldn’t presume to claim that Bryan’s tweet is necessarily motivated specifically by racism as opposed to a more general religious bigotry against anything non-Christian, for which we have plenty of independent evidence.
