I went to bed after posting the Cheap Trick video. What a band. I was too young, but my brother saw them regularly at the Red Lion Inn in Champaign, Il in the ’70s before they broke. But he had all of their records through the ’80s, so I loved them early on. In college my roommate was head of the concert board and no one else ever showed up for meetings, so he and I would just choose bands we liked (and there was a considerable budget). For an outdoor show we got Cheap Trick (probably 1986) once—no one knew them except for “I Want You to Want Me.” But they played some of their back catalogue and just kicked ass. (We also had Hoodoo Gurus, The Bangles, Elvis Costello w/ Nick Lowe, Billy Bragg, and a few others I can’t recall.) Good times!
