Quite true (especially your summation), but IMO, there never was “anything there”; but that there being “anything there” was (and always has been) irrelevant to the fake “scandal” Trump, the WH, the Admin and the GOP have been trying to gin up. What Hunter Biden did or didn’t do is fundamentally meaningless: the main goal was for the aforesaid loathsomes to start - and get their RW media enablers to start - bleating BIDEN!! UKRAINE!! CORRUPTION!! as loudly and as often as possible. And rely on the chump “MSM” to pick up on it - regardless of its veracity - and repeat the bleat, assuming (unfortunately, probably correctly) that BIDEN!! UKRAINE!! CORRUPTION!! was all anyone was likely to remember. Even after any allegations or accusations had been long debunked.

Recall that Trump’s Ukraine “team” - Giuliani, et. al. - were going to be satisfied with President Zelenskiy merely “announcing” an “investigation” into Burisma: actually investigating (or what they might find) was way secondary: it was the announcement that meant to provide backup for the BIDEN!! UKRAINE!! CORRUPTION!! chorus they were hoping would distract/derail Joe’s campaign.
