Probably and I hate to disagree with you on this, but was religion the main impetus in their conquests or was it conquest itself and raw power? I think religion was marginal to those specifically and I tend to agree with buzz on this. The same can be said for many of the most famous conquerors that come to mind, for instance Napoleon or, as mentioned, Alexander. These men might have been religious to one extent or other, but I believe it was tangenential to their lust for power and conquest.
