It is inevitable that these superstitious fools will turn this planet into an overheated cesspool. This is one reason I support spaceflight so much. It offers the chance of an escape for the brightest of the human race, not all of them and not soon (though possibly within this century). It will happen, though. The door is open and someone will have the courage and foresight to step through it.
Let the superstitious and the ignorant stew in their own hubris. They will anyway.
