It’s a ‘known fact’ in right wing circles that the FBI leaked the info to NYT. Of course there’s no evidence of it, and even if that were the case, NYT could still publish it.

I think it’s more likely the memos came from someone at one of the law firms involved or at Project Veritas. They exposed some very sleazy practices, by both PV and their lawyers.
