Conservatives are so aflutter about “waste” that they’ll more on preventing “waste” than what they lose in it.

Yet that’s what always gets me. The defense budget is so convoluted and full of “waste” that the Pentagon had to launch an effort just to make said budget “audit-ready.” They had no clue where money was going, what was being done with it, and what that money was actually paying for. But if you suggest cutting the defense budget to encourage them to deal with that “waste,” you’ll get flayed alive by an army of Congress critters who rely upon that “waste” for jobs in their districts.
