Look, there’s a path for these jurisdictions to no longer be subject to Section 5. It’s called getting a bail out and complying with the law for 10 years.

These states and jurisdictions aren’t on the Section 5 list permanently. They can get themselves out of trouble by cleaning up their act.

All you have to do is look at the bailout jurisdictions to see it can be done. That’s the ultimate remedy to states, not gutting Section 5.
