re: #269 Timothy Watson

You know, I don’t disagree that the government should be spending more money to make college affordable to students.

But, this is frankly reprehensible. Instead of spending money to make tuition affordable, the college decided to make a massive investment fund to raise money to build monuments to their vanity.

I’m having trouble finding in the article where the college is using the funds to “build monuments to their vanity.” If Virginia has been acting like Texas, and I wouldn’t be surprised since the state was run by Republicans for quite a while, then the state unloaded a lot of its responsibility for maintaining public colleges onto the schools themselves. Now they’re going to complain that the school is doing something about it?

Over the weekend, we drove through my alma mater, the University of Texas at Dallas. It’s only been 8 years since I got my masters there, and they have done some major work to the campus. The president, back when I graduated, talked about making improvements so that it can become a campus on par with the Austin campus, bringing research dollars to the area. It looks like they are definitely working toward that goal.
