It’s identical here in the Czech Republic. I sometimes have to explain to students why this concept doesn’t exist in the USA.

On the other hand, when they see videos of DMV kiosks located in supermarkets, they’re totally blown away. The most frequent question that follows is, “Why don’t we have that?! Instead, I have to go wait three hours in some decrepit old office and when I finally get my turn, they go on their coffee break or tell me I filled in something wrong and to come back another time!”

The bureaucracy here can indeed be Kafkaesque at times. No joke. It’s stuck in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
