I’d call it kayfabe.

But the principle holds.

Trump telegraphed he was going to act more than a week before.

Russia moved their fleet of ships out of Syrian port days before.

The raid came on a predictable day/time.

Russia likely tipped off Syria so that no one was in the targeted buildings at the time.

Churning rubble isn’t success. Assad’s key people were safe and sound elsewhere.

Russia did what they usually do - help Assad get the compromising evidence out of the area and block investigators just long enough to sanitize things.

Trump played along with all this.
