To me, unconscious behaviour is not role playing, while conscious behaviour is a kind of role playing in that it is purposeful.

Stupid bullshit Spare. It’s not role playing, it’s standard social interaction, straights do it too… ever been to a Karaoke bar, a academy award party, ever see whole groups of college kids dressing up for an event, a sports game and so on… you have a very narrow view of the gay community… they are more like you than you want to admit.
