Makes me think of a guy I used to live with. Died of marrow cancer.

Also a recovering alcoholic. When he realized he had months to live he basically said ‘fuck recovering, I’m gonna enjoy my last days!’ and started buying single malt again :D

That was sort of where my grandmother was, although she never stopped drinking at any time. She didn’t like to hurt, and she was getting old, and the dementia was a factor—so she made it clear that her very strong preference was to be in a happy combination of drugs as much of the time as possible. And the family supported her.
