Conspiracy? Not at all. Hardball / moneyball politics would be my descriptor. I am pretty sure there are Dems (particularly national PACS) out there that would love to see Rice run as an easy take down. Or as a huge foil to gain donations. After all say “war criminal” and “candidate” in the same pitch for donations and you got a winning pitch.

In the same vein, there are surely republicans that would rather see Hilary run than Elizabeth Warren for similar reasons. Get donation $$$ baby!
