This could be incredibly damaging. It validates the worst criticisms of Romney’s personality, that he’s arrogant, elitist, and has contempt for those less fortunate than himself. He basically said half of the United States is composed of lazy, shiftless welfare-abusing good-for-nothings.

If I were with the president’s campaign, I would at this moment be putting together video of those lazy, shiftless, welfare-abusing good-for-nothings, covered in coal dust still wearing their hardhats, working an assembly line somewhere, or in a sweatshop, or bussing a table—basically, pictures of those shiftless Americans who either are working themselves to death for their families, or living in desperate poverty—while all the while, Mitt Romney’s voice would be playing in the background.
