I don’t understand why you even think that’s a punishment. It’s allowing them to keep feeling good about doing horrible things. That’s why sociopaths tend to live long natural lives (e.g. Pinochet) - no conscience, no stress.

If they believe in God, do you want them repenting on their deathbed?
