re: #277 Decatur Deb
Tuition costs at public universities like the one Galileo taught run 850—1000 Euros per year. Merit-based subsidies help out.
The US can afford to teach all its talented kids.
Undergraduate tuition at Cal State Long Beach is $3,399 per semester. That doesn’t include books or housing. The problem is that Long Beach State (along with half of the CSU system) is impacted, meaning they get more qualified applicants each year than they can admit (when I was there 20 years ago, about a third of the majors were impacted and required department approval). We need more universities, but I don’t know if the state budget could handle building three or four more universities.
