re: #277 NY Nana

I would first try to get the list of medications. I know that at 71, there are meds that I can no longer tolerate. From my experience the Pharmacist can give you far better info re each med than the MD.

In NY, the Pharmacist must give you a sheet with all the info in plain English re each RX you buy.

What bothers me the most re meds is that with all the advertising on TV, radio, in newspapers, and tear-outs in magazines, people will ask the MD, who has very little time to spend with the patient, for one of the meds that has a money-off offer in many cases, and the MD will either give the patient a free sample, or just write the script.

There are far more untoward effects from meds in the elderly.

Nana - I have also discovered that doctors often don’t know about the interactions of medications nearly as well as the pharmacist, and nothing beats reading the materials that come with your prescription.

There is a particular antibiotic that is not supposed to be taken with the cholesterol medication. I only knew this because I read the material that came with the prescription before taking the antibiotic. Now I know to stop taking the cholesterol med when I have to take that antibiotic; but neither the pharmacist nor my doctor said the first thing about it. ALWAYS READ THE INSERTS.
