The problem with a lot of these kind of bills is that even those people are looking at it and truly think it would be good for the country to disincentivize pregnant women from potentially killing themselves to cross the desert just to have a baby in the states, risking their lives and the lives of their unborn baby in the process, can get lumped in with the undoubtedly more vocal supporters of a bill like this: racists, uber-nationalists. I was just discussing with our manager of transcription, who is hispanic, how it’s easy to see both sides in the AZ immigration debate, but that because of federal inaction and the inability of pushing through an comprehensive reform that addresses all problems, you’re going to see bills like AZ’s where they try to step up where the feds are failing.
