Of all businesses, only the press has a constitutional protection and right to exist.
That protection is there because an uniformed public cannot participate meaningfully in a democratic republic.
The press is not there to praise politicians. They are there to hold them to account, and that includes saying when they lied.
Calling lies âdemonstrable falsehoodsâ removes the agency from the person propagating that falsehood.
I can say something which is false. That makes that something a âfalsehood.â
I can deliberately propagate a falsehood, knowing or not caring if that statement is true or not. That is a âlie.â
The comparison of âMs. Haberman calling a lie âa lieâ just like the claim âWhy didnât Obama use the word terroristââ is a faulty analogy.
Conservatives lied about Obama. He did use that term.
Ms. Haberman is doing what she can to maintain her access journalism. Her paycheck depends on what she writes.
