Well it’s not even truly a lie. The fact is for much of the 19th and early half of the 20th century, the GOP was better on Civil Rights but what the hell does that mean to someone now who hears Republicans using PoC as a boogeyman to strum up support. There is literally not a soul alive today who was alive when the GOP was clearly the better of the two parties on Civil Rights. These guys love to talk about the Dixiecrats but they ignore that many Southern Republicans actually tried to out right wing them on civil rights eventually and that’s actually how we got some of the first Republican Congressmen and SEnators from the Deep South in the modern era.

Right, the lie part is to continue to insist as he and others do that the parties have not transformed since the 1860’s.
