That’s a sign that this isn’t really a math question — it’s a question about which rules are being used to deal with ambiguity. E.g., en.wikipedia.org

This also comes up only with the short forms of division (using /, or ÷) - if you use the full form of division, with the numerator and denominator explicit, the ambiguity disappears.
