What I’m tired is the notion that popular vote is “canceling” rural areas and states. It’s not the Democrats fault that the GOP is increasingly a rural and sectional party.

The electoral college is actually cancelling votes everywhere. If you’re a Democrat in Wyoming or Utah, there’s no point in you voting for president, because what difference does it make if the Democrat loses 60-40 or 55-45? If you’re a Republican in California or New York, it’s the same scenario.

If it’s a popular vote, then Democrats closing the gap in Wyoming and Utah matters. Same with Republicans in California or New York. In fact, this might actually be more beneficial to Republicans because there are more lost votes in big states than there are in smaller states.
