Just read through some of the tweets and the hate that some people have for her. As if a woman can’t show joy, mug for the cameras, and be ebullient in kicking ass and taking names at the very top of her sport and the game of soccer.

These same critics don’t have issues when guys do the same. Note how so many criticized her and her teammates for their goal celebrations. I get if you want to criticize that you should act like you’ve been there before, but the sportsworld is a place where celebrations are a thing - like when guys slide out after goals, take off their jerseys, and do other crazy stuff. Why shouldn’t Rapinoe do the same?

Oh yeah, it comes back to criticizing the patriarchy - that women are paid so much less than men, despite there being higher ratings. FIFA is making crazy money off the women, and they’re not getting anywhere near what they should get.

Men get $400 million. Women $30. Even doubling it to $60 million is an insult.
