I think maybe the “Stage 4 colon cancer survivor” thing might be a more important factor in the late Mr. Cain’s demise than just his age. Assuming he underwent chemotherapy for the cancer.

Chemo has been noted as a contributing factor to COVID-19 mortality since the beginning: which (AFAIC), would make someone who had had it realize they were much more “at risk”, and take even more precautions to avoid any possible CV infection. But maybe that’s just me.
