Yesterday Trump did the stupid thing of tweeting that he wanted Farage to be the UK ambassador to the US.

As I noted at the time, the Brits would be right to be miffed.

Meanwhile, Tory former Minister Sir Simon Burns - who is a big supporter of defeated Democrat candidate Clinton - poked fun at Mr Trump’s “extremely generous” advice.

He urged Mr Johnson to return the favour by proposing that Mrs Clinton serve as the US Ambassador to Britain.

Boris Johnson, who like Mr Farage campaigned for Leave in June’s EU referendum, slapped down suggestions his Brexit ally could be handed the plum role.

The Foreign Secretary told MPs: “We have a first rate ambassador in Washington doing a very good job of relating both with the present administration and with the administration to be, and there is no vacancy for that position.”
