This is what I’m talking about, Oprah’s speech was a cipher and so many people just heard what they wanted to hear in it. They’re so busy projecting their own desires on top that they can’t just let it be about what it was about. Matthews is so eager as an older white guy to piss on identity politics that he didn’t even notice Oprah talking about seeing Sidney Poitier be the first black man to win the CBD aware or her being the first black woman to win it. Chris completely missed the entire point about how important these milestones are, how the symbology has a real impact especially on shaping the perceptions of young viewers.

Chris Matthews, talking about Oprah: “She doesn’t play ethnic games. She doesn’t play cards.” Gee, I wonder what he means by that.
