My husband is finally home from the hospital. New antibiotic taken almost 3 hours ago and no bad effects. Home health nurse coming Monday to change dressing. Then a trip back to the burn after care clinic to see the doctor and get the wound looked at some time next week. It’s 80 percent closed and it looks like no skin grafts needed.

The biggest challenge is getting his diabetes under control because that interferes with healing and it’s a big part of why this happened. Necrotizing fasciitis is not anything to mess with kids. He will not be considered fully recovered until 6 months from the day the wound is considered healed.

23 days in the hospital. Months of recovery. He’s lost muscle tissue from being bedridden all this time. He’s going to need physical therapy, lots of dietary changes and heaven knows what else. And maybe, just maybe, the planets will all line up and I can get a whole night’s sleep for the first time in almost a month. 😴
