Yes, but in the end, it doesn’t matter a whole lot. Given the amount of self-delusion and rationalisation you have to do to vote GOP at all, it’s not very surprising that he ends up rationalising a change of mind.

I too am somewhat appalled that he is so beholden to his self-image of being a Republican that he denies any attempt at sense, but in the end I think it is mostly that he sees things through the prism of a game. That is, it’s all at a distance for him, and the political ramifications of his views aren’t something he’s ever experienced or has any real connection to. Most of us here have at least some experience with the gaming mindset, and his outlook smacks very much of someone who applies a little too much of that to real life things that affect real live people. And there’s only so much you can type online to try and help someone’s outlook mature and grow up.

That said, I do think that this place sometimes turns on him unnecessarily. It may be sad to see him dodge obvious questions and put forward poorly thought out opinions that he thinks are just cheerleading for his team, but it’s not like he’s ever openly mean-spirited or abusive or aggressively harrassing other commenters here, unlike several previous ‘conservative’ commenters I remember. And I think putting him through purity tests with a threat of banning for not having well thought out political opinions is not what LGF is or should be about. This site has the least groupthink of any place online I have seen, but every so often I see some of it here as well.
