I think the GOP will remain stuck in its present awful state at least through 2020. Admittedly, I’m hard-pressed to think of a significant intermediate position between where Trump is now and straight-up “final solution” talk which I assume (perhaps over-optimistically) would be a show stopper.

Even assuming that they fail in “taking out” President-Elect Clinton (fingers crossed), the Deplorables are going to cause a lot of trouble after the election. The Left has been discredited for a couple of generations by the events of the Sixties. I know there’s a double standard—they caused what? One death that wasn’t self-inflicted? Whereas RWNJs can do anything and they’re just “lone wolves” with mental-health issues. Is it possible for the Right to make themselves obnoxious enough to the general public to discredit them for a while? I suppose not as long as the MBF media are around to apologize for them.
