Copy editing in official government work is critical. Misplaced or misworded documents have serious consequences. When you’re the president, words matter.

An extreme example - but one that is relevant to this day goes to the inclusion of the word “the” in United Nations Security Council Resolution 242 in reference to the withdrawal from land(s) captured during the 1967 Six Day War. If you say the land captured (as French translation indicates), that indicates all the land captured needs to be returned. If you omit the, then you can argue that not all land must be returned.

That a straight talking reactionary know-nothing has problems with basic English and grammar, and requires this much exposition to get to a point shows how much damage he’s doing.
