re: #241 Obdicut

Well, I would say (as I’ve said before) that a lot of people on the ‘left’— like college student types—are not anti-semitic, but are very anti-Israel, because they believe bullshit they hear about Israel. They manage the disconnect in their brain of being quite pro-American Jews (who tend to be liberal, tend to be very strong on civil rights, etc.) while being quite anti-Israel.

Whereas there are many of those on the ‘right’ who are pro-Israel, but in accusing the ‘left’ of total antisemitism are— whether they know it or not— accusing Jews of being self-hating or being okay with antisemitism. I see a lot of people on LGF angrily castigating the left wing for supposedly rampant antisemitism while ignoring that most Jews in the US are leftist. This can even lead, sometimes, to a person on the ‘right’ expressing the feeling that any Jew who is not in Israel is somehow not really a Jew, or at least not as much of a Jew as one who is in Israel. You also see a lot of people on the right attacking prominent ‘leftist’ Jews like Soros with information sourced from antisemites.

Then, of course, you’ve got the Bircher/Paulian contingent, who combine being anti-Israel with being very, very anti-Jewish. They have their mirror on the ‘left’ in terms of those who identify “neocons” as a subgroup of Jews.

It’s all rather depressing.

It is indeed all rather depressing.

But I still find it odd that the person upthread believes left-wing anti-semitism is somehow “better” than right-wing antisemitism.
Which is what started this whole thing.
