In order to decide winnable we first need to define victory, we could just blow the place to atoms & declare victory… or we could occupy them for for 100 years till they have a McDonald’s on every street. I am guessing the victory lies somewhere between those 2 points.

Totally agree here. Victory conditions just don’t exist. It’s not that we can’t win the war, it’s that you need to be a minor diety to figure out if you’ve won or not.
