The hearings we should be doing now will be preliminary to impeachment hearings proper. (Also too, the Watergate hearings — not impeachment hearings, as they were held in the Senate — started in May, and the nation was riveted. Summertime meant more free time to watch.)

True. But the difference here is that Nixon had already been re-elected. Trump will be campaigning for his second term.

I’d rather see Trump being peppered with questions about his taxes or what he told McGahn to do or Ivanka’s involvement on the campaign trail. He’d probably get so fed up and frustrated, he’d either go into bunker mode or stop campaigning altogether.
