The banks need to be saved. We can’t have an economic recovery without them. The TARP thing seems to be working ok so far. There will be some government regulations regarding hedge funds, and the uptick rule (about shorting stocks) is going to be put back in place soon. I’d also like to see us break up the huge banks. The world economy depends on about a dozen companies. I’d like to see that spread out to something like 100 so next time this happens we can let 20-30 of them go bust without crashing the economy.

What difference will it make if the banks are still forced to make crappy loans through political coercion? Do we have any guarantee that the policies that led to this failure won’t be repeated?
