I don’t think it’s too late yet. They’re always in control of the primaries but I don’t think they’re all as highly partisan when it comes to voting. They nominated McCain “The Maverick”, Bush in ‘00 with his “compassionate conservative” meme and thus far Romney is the front-runner. They’ll vote for a candidate they think he can win and beating Obama is their first priority.
