In my opinion, Franken resigning (despite being a powerful voice for the left) was the proper thing to do. He took that controversy off the table for the GOP to use in the elections (Franken was considering more than his own political future).

There is nothing that anyone can do or not do that will take something ‘off the table’ for cult attacks. Al Franken resigning or staying in, Samantha Bee apologising or not - what they do or do not do does not alter the possible attacks and responses from the cult in any way.

This is because the enemy is a cult. What happens in objective reality does not matter to what they can say. Whether Franken resigns or not, they can and will attack Democrats for anything they like. It does not matter what he does, which is why whether or not he resigns should have nothing to do with what the enemy might do. Their attacks literally include the widely-believed charge that Hillary Clinton ran a child sex ring out of a pizza shop basement. Should Hillary have resigned to prevent them using that attack? Should she publicly disavow pizza to ‘take that off the table’?

I cannot state this clearly enough. What we do - what positions we take, what actions we support, what policies we enact - must take into account many things, but most importantly, must take into account what is true, what is right, and what is just. What must never - NEVER - be considered is ‘what conservatives will say about it’. We do not share the same reality. We can’t ignore their reality, because it impacts ours, but the reverse is not true. We must overcome and drown out their reality, but we cannot modify our actions to try to influence it. That is not possible. You wouldn’t take a section out of your doctoral thesis because your neighbour’s cat wouldn’t like it. The same principle applies here.
