In all honesty, Apple is not the company that is ever going to give you longevity and continued support. When I buy an Apple product, it is done so knowing that I will likely only receive support for the duration of the warranty period and I should not expect software updates to work on the hardware past that date.

THIS. My original iPad (1st gen) is just over 4 years old, but it might as well be a doorstop for all the use I get out of it. It can’t run the newer iOS or apps, so it mostly just sits on a shelf looking forlorn. It’ll probably make a decent softbox though. // half

If my boss hadn’t gotten me the new iPad Mini last year I prolly would’ve ended up with a Google Nexus. Much as I love my iPads, I can’t afford to burn $700-$800 every 2-3 years. The iPod Touch is a little less painful, but still…
