Warren Harding knew his close. He died before the Ohio Gang Scandal of political cronyism run amok blew up. (I actually saw the history of that scandal while visiting Washington Court House back on the 2012 GOBA; and it was even more messed up than you might even think.)

This level of outright cronyism, attempted suppression and political privileges seen on display right now would make Harding blush.
