Swearing in on a bible is a custom, not a law. Two presidents, I believe didn’t even use a bible. “In god we trust” didn’t show up on coins until the 1860s or paper money until the 1950s. The pilgrims were refugees. And many of the founders were deists so they used vague terms and weren’t all “hashtag John 3:16 hashtag Romans 8:17” (I just randomly picked that second one, don’t know what it actually says). I mean, hell, jefferson’s bible literally removed all the hocus locus from the story of Jesus.

Wasn’t what Jefferson did was to buy a standard-edition New Testament, then take a razor to it, cutting out everything that wasn’t directly attributable to Jesus? And then realize that what he had was;
1. A lot of waste paper
2. A “Testament” that was basically a long pamphlet
