The suitcase is zipped up and I’m waiting for my electronic gear to finish charging before I shove all the cords into my backpack. I’m going to Japan in the morning! And I know exactly four words in Japanese: hai, konnichiwa, arigato gozaimasu and kawaii. I’m pathetic, I know.

sumimasen = excuse me, sorry.
arigatou gozaimasu = polite way to say thank you.
nihongo ga wakarimasen = I do not understand japanese
hai = yes
iie = no
onegaishimasu = please

probably the most useful bits for a gaijin to know. And about all I remember from 1985 O_o
