The theory as I saw it the other day was that the Congressional GOP may decide to force a Nixon-style situation, with enough House Republicans voting along with the Democratic colleagues to pass articles of impeachment, creating a situation where it seems very likely that the Senate will vote to remove him from office. Then the party leadership will sit him down and tell him that he needs to resign “for the good of the party.”

OK but the fatal flaw in that scenario is that Trump ain’t Nikon. Trump doesn’t give a shit about what the party leadership wants because he owns the fucking GOP base, and they know it.
