The ruling struck down part of the law which requires a 2/3 majority of the state legislature to change a street name, building, or statue honouring a racist slaver or segregationist, requiring now only a simple majority.

The law was passed in 2000. The state legislature has never taken up a bill to change any name or remove any statute.
