The bill doesn’t mandate transvaginal ultrasound but does require determination of gestational age which can only be done with a transvaginal ultrasound in the early stages.

Here’s how Republican Todd Rock, one of the co-sponsors responded:

“I guess it is a little more invasive, but the idea is to take measurements to determine the gestational age, and you have to do it this way to get that kind of detail,” Rock said of the transvaginal method. “I don’t think that’s much to ask if the life of a baby is hanging in the balance.”
